Letting go of pain

I read from a book that to let go of pain, you first have to know where it is coming from and feel it… really really feel it in its purest sense.  Get hurt and hurt yourself even more as you soak your heart into it.  Recognize it as it tries to haunt your life and observe it. Then you’ll know what its like and how it feels.  Then you’ll know that you can survive it.  Then you are ready to let go.
